This project was completed as a three-week collaborative assignment focused on creating awareness posters through an iterative exchange process. The assignment required developing visual communications that evolved through peer collaboration, culminating in two digitalized posters addressing mental health and inner conflict.
Week 1: Initial Concept Development
I created a hand-drawn poster centered on the theme of privacy and security. This original work was then exchanged with classmates as part of the collaborative process.
Week 2: First Exchange
I received a poster about climate change and climate protection from another student, which was then mixed again in the rotation system.
Week 3: Final Exchange & Digital Execution
The final exchange brought me a hand-drawn concept focused on mental issues and mental health. Using this as foundation, I developed two digitalized posters that expanded on themes of psychological struggle and internal conflict.
Poster 1: “Angel of Darkness”
Concept: A visual exploration of the internal battle between good and evil, inspired by the theme of mental awareness.
Visual Elements:
- Central Figure: A deliberately simplified 3D model representing humanity as a whole, without specific identity, making the struggle universal
- Color Symbolism: Red and purple tones representing conflicting emotions—hope versus fear, strength versus doubt
- Left Composition: Three smaller figures depicting phases of mental distress:
- Pointing fingers at others out of misunderstanding
- Praying and hoping for change without taking action
- Overthinking problems until no room remains for solutions
Symbolic Depth:
- Integration of classical Christian imagery of angels and demons
- A cross pattern subtly hidden within the right wing, intersecting with the demonic element wrapped around the figure’s neck
- This juxtaposition emphasizes that good exists within evil and evil within good
- Critical perspective on religion: while it can provide comfort, it can also oppress
Theme: The work mirrors how choices and emotions influence each other in the search for balance between light and darkness.
Poster 2: “Torn Between”
Concept: A continuation of the internal conflict theme, visualizing the psychological struggle between opposing forces.
Visual Elements:
- A model figure in descent, one wing flapping downward, the other upward
- The physical tearing motion represents being pulled apart by guilt and pride
- Dynamic composition suggesting movement and instability
Theme: The duality of self-destructive emotions and how conflicting moral forces create internal fragmentation.
Design Approach
Both posters utilize 3D modeling and symbolic visual language to communicate complex psychological concepts. The work transforms the collaborative, hand-drawn foundation into polished digital executions that maintain emotional rawness while achieving professional presentation quality.
Key Takeaway
This project demonstrated the value of collaborative creative processes and how themes can evolve through interpretation. Working from another student’s concept challenged me to honor their initial vision while bringing my own perspective on mental health, morality, and internal conflict to create meaningful visual statements.
